ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Today, the Alaska Cannabis Institute received authorization from the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education to offer cannabis certifications for entrepreneurs who want to enter the newly regulated Alaskan marijuana marketplace in 2016. This institutional authorization makes the Alaska Cannabis Institute the only organization recognized by the state of Alaska to offer cannabis education.
“The Institute’s mission is to educate and connect cannabis entrepreneurs with the tools, information, and resources to succeed and become leaders within the Alaska cannabis community,” said Cory Wray, executive director of the Alaska Cannabis Institute. “This authorization is part of the process in legitimizing the cannabis industry at-large, and providing better resources and information for entrepreneurs entering the cannabis market.”
The Legislature created the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) in 1974, which is funded by the Alaska Student Loan Corporation, and promotes access to and success in education and career training beyond high school.
Since 2013, the Alaska Cannabis Institute has educated over 350 students. The Institute offers certificates to students who complete the full program; and offers continuing education opportunities for students who are not enrolled in the full program, but are interested in the cannabis industry.
