Cake Strain

Cake, or Kush Cake, is a classic strain of cannabis that is a favorite amongst many smokers. The 65% Indica based strain was created by combining the genetics of Cherry Pie and another classic strain, Girl Scout Cookies.

Cherry Pie (sometimes referred to as Cherry Kush), is an Indica heavy strain that has a very high THC potency of 26% and contains zero CBD. It was created by mixing the genetics of Grandaddy Purple and Durban Poison.

Created in San Fransisco, this strain has been enjoyed by the cannabis industry for decades.

The other parent of Cake, Girl Scout Cookies (or GSC), is another very recognizable strain to cannabis smokers. This strain has won several awards, including some at the famed Cannabis Cup.

This strain was itself created by mixing the genetics of OG Kush and Durban Poison. Girl Scout Cookies is an Indica-dominant hybrid strain that has a high THC potency of 28% and 1% CBD.

The combination of these two parent strains means that Cake has a high THC level of 25%, and contains no CBD.

Cake Strain

Origin

Created in Portland, Oregon by the Pintail Gardens, this environmentally friendly company strives to make the cannabis industry more eco-friendly.

The whole growing process is powered by renewable energy, and their products have a higher potency compared to those grown by other cannabis companies. They strive to create “top-shelf” cannabis and have designed their growing process to bring out the best in every strain.

The environment is not the only thing that Pintail cares about though, they also campaign to get other companies to pay their employees living wages, which they themselves already do.

They believe that everyone has a right to a good wage and that paying people more will give them a better work ethic, therefore making their products better.

Strain Appearance

The buds of Cake are very dense and heavy but are easy to break apart. The buds are usually a dark forest green with a few specks of purple dotted all around it.

Though a dark green, the buds actually look quite light just to the white crystal trichomes that cover the whole surface. This makes the bud look like it has been covered in a thin layer of snow or sugar. Because of these trichomes, the buds of Cake are also very sticky.

Strain Flavor

The main flavor you will taste with Cake is earthy. It tastes like moss, dirt, and just a sprinkling of herbs and pine. On the exhale, you may notice a sweeter taste that falls somewhere between lemon and vanilla.

Strain Aroma

When you first smell this bud, you will notice a very strong smell of diesel and earthy tones that match the taste. Once broken open, the smell changes slightly to incorporate sweeter tastes like vanilla and lemon.

Cake is a very stinky strain, and the smell can travel far, so be careful where you are smoking it if you decide to smoke outside. If you smoke indoors, then be aware that this smell can quickly and easily seep into your clothes and furniture and will stick around for a while after you smoke.

Strain Cannabinoids

Cake contains several cannabinoids of various amounts. All of these amounts are just the average that you will find in this stain, as the exact amount will vary depending on where you get this bud and how it is grown.

  • THC – 19 – 19.5%
  • CBD – 1.16 – 1.5%
  • CBC – 0.32 – 0.63%
  • CBG – 0.67 – 1.18%
  • CBN – 0.08 – 0.15%
  • THCV – 0.18 – 0.57%

Strain Terpenes

Cake contains many terpenes, but it has three dominant ones. The first is Caryophyllene. This spicy and peppery tasting terpene is known for its anti-stress and mood-enhancing effects.

This is the only terpene that can affect the receptors in the endocannabinoid system. It has several medical applications and benefits and is used both in the medical marijuana industry and the regular medical industry.

Caryophyllene is used to treat a wide variety of disorders ranging from the mental to the physical such as anxiety, depression, Chrone’s disease, and some cancers.

The next most prevalent terpene is Limonene. This is what gives the Cake strain its sweeter flavor, as this terpene tastes like citrus and lemon.

This is the second most common terpene after Mycrene (which is found in all strains and so will not be covered here). Like most terpenes, it has a positive mood enhancement and anti-stress effect on the person’s body and mind. Also, like most terpenes, it has several medical benefits.

Limonene is useful in treating pain as it is an anti-inflammatory and can also aid in wound healing. It is a useful terpene to use if a person is suffering from mental disorders as it can calm the mind while also giving users a more positive outlook on life.

The final terpene is Eucalyptol. This is found in many cannabis strains and has a fresh and fragrant aroma and taste. Aside from cannabis, it is also used in many medicines, most commonly in eucalyptus oil.

It can be useful in reducing congesting in the sinuses and is also a good pain-relieving chemical.

Strain Side Effects

Cake is perfect if you want to boost your mood, as it is an excellent stress-relieving strain. It will make you feel more relaxed and calm, while also giving you that typical Indica buzz.

It is best smoked in the afternoon or evening when you have the time to focus on the things you enjoy doing like hanging out with friends or getting creative. If you are struggling with a project or task, you could also use this strain to boost your concentration and focus.

This strain works wonders on aches, pains, or sore muscles, so if you have a very physical job, or you have just done a hard workout at the gym and need to relax, then Cake will make all of the pain melt away.

This strain will also make you a bit sleepy, which may be a positive or negative depending on what you want to get out of this high.

There are very few negative side effects to Cake. The main one is that it causes dry mouth, which then creates a strong thirst. This is common in most cannabis strains though, and can easily be combatted with a big drink of water.

Another negative effect is dry eyes. Though this will pass, if it annoys you too much you could try using eye drops to avoid this.

Medical Benefits

|Due to the amount of pain-killing terpenes in Cake, this is a great strain to smoke if you suffer from both chronic pain or just regular aches after a long day.

As this strain gives smokers an energy boost, you won’t become couch-locked meaning that you can get up, move around, and enjoy being pain-free for a while. When you do get sleepy, Cake will allow you to fall asleep without any of your pain keeping you awake.

Strain Review

The effects of smoking Cake can be both mentally and physically uplifting. Depression, worry, and stress don’t stand a chance against Cake due to its stress-relieving properties.

The strain is great for Type A personalities that want to feel calm and cheerful in their hectic lives. Cake goes well with peaceful activities like as watching movies or being creative. It’s also ideal for doing nothing at all and just relaxing if that’s what you want to do.

You can expect blissful relaxation and a high mental boost from Cake. Athletes appreciate the strain because it has a powerful calming effect on aching muscles in addition to its mental effects.

Cake can help with recovery after a workout by easing tightness and soreness in muscles that have been functioning harder than they’re used to.

This strain brings a smile to smoker’s faces by instilling sensations of creativity and a sense of do-nothing joy that is hard to come by sometimes.

Strain Grow Info

Strain Seeds

The seeds to Cake can be bought directly from Pintail Gardens via their online store. Some cannabis dispensaries may also sell it, especially if they are based around the Portland area.

This strain can be grown both indoors and outdoors. While with other strains where you grow it would usually impact its height, with cake, no matter where it is grown, you can expect the plant to be around 60-80 inches tall.

Strain Flowering Time

Cake takes 50-57 days to flower, and can then be harvested after 60 days.

Strain Yield

Where you grow Cake will impact how big of a yield you get from this plant. If grown indoors, your yield will be around 1 – 2 Oz/Ft² (~ 400 g/m²). When grown outdoors, the yield will be slightly larger at 15 – 20 Oz/plant (~ 550 g/m²).
