Blueberry Skunk Strain Review

A bit like the Marmite of the weed world, Blueberry Skunk is a divisive strain that gets people talking – you either love it very much or take one hit and never want to touch it again.

Gentle blueberry notes are left in the dust by skunky clouds, which a lot of folk aren’t so keen on, but others adore.

Blueberry Skunk Strain Review

Potency

Packing quite a potent punch, Blueberry Skunk weighs in at an average THC range of 20%-24%, so it’s very much recommended for those with a well-established tolerance, whilst folks who are new to marijuana should probably look for something a little weaker to try out first.

What Is Blueberry Skunk Strain

Blueberry Skunk is a hybrid – as already mentioned, this little number is an indica dominant strain, with a ratio of 80% to 20% sativa.

Smoking it is a journey that builds as you go, starting with tingly sensations and a nice heavy head that builds to an overwhelming need to snack and suddenly finding everything hilarious.

Eventually, your euphoric happy feelings will wane, leaving you satisfied and sleepy with heavy eyes. Free of anxiety, all tension released and a cozy lingering high is the perfect way to drift off to sleep.

Lovely in the evening as a way to wind down and a possible solution to insomnia, you’ll certainly get your rest after a couple of tokes of this.

How Was Blueberry Skunk Developed

Born in the Netherlands through the hard work of growing legends The Flying Dutchmen, Blueberry Skunk combines veteran strain Blueberry with Skunk #1 to make for a fruity, funky cocktail that offers instant relaxation.

Blueberry is a beloved strain that has parented many hybrids to produce hundreds of delightful, snooze-inducing smokes. With an average THC percentage of 20% and a ratio of 80% indica to 20% sativa, it’s equally as sleepy as its skunky predecessor.

Skunk #1 is slightly more complicated, as it too is a hybrid from Sacred Seed Co, who bred it using Colombian Gold, Afghani, Acapulco Gold and others to create what is essentially the founding father of skunks that make up our dispensary stocks today.

Its average THC content is somewhat lower at 16%, which makes it a good base, with a ratio of 65% indica to 35% sativa to match.

When you mix the two together, you get a heady indica that offers a few hours of elation followed by a soft and sleepy feeling that will carry you to your bed (or perhaps just the sofa) on a cushiony cloud.

Taste

Initially, there is an overwhelming sweetness that bursts into your mouth with that first pull, but this doesn’t last for long. That Skunk #1 quickly makes itself known, a pungent taste that pushes blueberry right to the back of your palate.

It’s also got a little bit of a peppery aftertaste, which contributes to the general “like it or lump it” consensus.

Odor And Flavor

Combining both its namesakes, Blueberry Skunk has a soft, fruity sweetness that subtly lingers beneath a dank and earthy skunk which dominates.

Again, the smell is something you’ll either really enjoy, or absolutely loathe, so be ready to open a window or prepared to smoke outside!

Physical Appearance

Creating a colorful fusion of greens and blues, the large, thick buds of Blueberry Skunk are gorgeous and almost make the nugs look like ripe fruits themselves.

Cute but crystalised, don’t be fooled by the pure beauty of such a gorgeous hybrid, covered in furry orange.

Grow Info

Renters beware: Blueberry Skunk is dank. When we say it will reek regardless of where you put it, without the proper smell proofing kit, we mean it. Your neighbors will be on your ass faster than you on a blunt after a long day of work.

Taking a little over nine months to finish flowering in the right conditions, you’ll have an estimated yield of between 12 and 14 ounces, provided you’re harvesting prior to mid-October.

Climate-wise, when growing outside, you need a warm Mediterranean environment for these babies to thrive if you want such a bountiful harvest.

You’re going to want a lot of room for these plants, too – they can get as tall as four and a half feet, which is the height of your average nine year old! They’ll probably need some structural support to keep growing well, unless you want snapped stems.

Effects

Provided you’re not new to smoking, there are plenty of positives when toking up on some Blueberry Skunk. After an incredibly stressful, busy or unpleasant day, it will leave you uplifted, relaxed and hopefully a bit happier.

You will also be ready to chow down, so if you’ve not got much of an appetite because of the aforementioned bad day, a couple hits of this will definitely help.

Side Effects

As a particularly potent strain, you can expect the usual dry mouth and eyes when you have more than a couple of hits of Blueberry Skunk.

An unfortunate few might also experience headaches or dizziness, so if you’re already prone to either or have experienced those side effects from other strains, it may be best to steer clear.

Although some may see this as a benefit, smoking more than a little bit of this lovely hybrid can rid you of absolutely any productive intentions you had, sending you off for an afternoon nap before you have the chance to protest.

Medical Appointments

Containing more CBD than the average strain, Blueberry Kush is regularly recommended to those using marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Its potency offers pain relief and alleviates fatigue with just a couple of hits, as well as pushing away stress and depression for many users.

Final Thoughts

As prefaced earlier, Blueberry Skunk is not an incredibly popular strain – it tends to split the room a little. If you don’t tend to favor the stinky, sticky, darker buds, reminiscent of hash, then you probably won’t like this bud very much, despite its initial burst of beautiful berry flavor.
